Note: This is part of a section walking through pregnancy and postpartum. It contains meditations and prayers from my five pregnancies (closely spaced). I recognize every woman and every pregnancy is different, but all have something to share. If you are pregnant or newly postpartum, I encourage you to take a look at the pieces aligned to whichever stage you are in.
30 Weeks
Heavenly Father,
You broke me a little bit today as I prepared the children to go outside in the snow.
It was my third venture back up the stairs, for a forgotten pair of socks, on strained food amid the impatient cries of toddlers.
“Why did You have to give me five children in seven years?”
I whined aloud the ugly sentiment which You have read in my heart all too often these past seven months.
And the words of Moses came to me from the edge of the wilderness:
“God humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 8:3
I repent.
It is good, O Lord, that I should break. That I should know pain and grow hungry for comfort. You did it for my stubborn ancestors in the faith, and You shall do it for me. Keep me trusting in Jesus, that I may not be hardened by sin. By this ingratitude for Your priceless blessings.
Let me break.
Let me grow weary.
Let me be content with Your manna for as many years as You grant me in this wilderness, that I may enter Your promised rest.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever,
Amen.
